Christopher Gatson, a.k.a." DJ Whip", is a veteran to the DJ game and he uses that to his advantage every time he gets up on stage to perform. Whip taught himself how to scratch by watching Beat Street as a child. He purchased his first mixer and turntables at age 12 and started DJing his first house parties at the age of 15. DJ Whip has been spinning for an impressive eighteen years now and has not stopped growing since day one. His eclectic tastes of music and extensive knowledge of nearly every genre makes him a very powerful player in this scene.

The DJ Industry is a very fast-pace and aggressive business to be in. Whip has stayed on top of all of the most ground-breaking technological advances this industry has seen and has still found a way to stay true to his roots by keeping his turntables as his choice for battle. Whip's ability to cater to the crowd has made him one of the most respected DJs in Metro Detroit today.

These days you can catch Whip at his upscale residencies at Rosie O’Grady’s in Ferndale on Thursdays, Club V inside MGM Grand Detroit on Friday, and Birmingham's swanky Corner Bar on Saturday Nights. Whip isn't just spinning records these days, he is now mixing music videos in real time which has added a completely new and exciting element to his shows. His fans love it!

There have been many influencing people in Whip's life that have inspired him to spin the way he does. Jam Master Jay, The Wizard, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and DJ Cash Money to name a few. In 2004, Whip opened up for Maxwell at The Fox Theater. In 2005 DJ Whip went on tour with The Source Magazine in Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, and New York City. In 2006 He was nominated as The Official DJ for Super Bowl XL in Detroit. DJ Whip has also had the opportunity to DJ parties for Detroit Rap Star Eminem, Proof, Dr. Dre, Magic Johnson, Lebron James, and The Detroit Pistons. In 2008, Whip represented Jermaine Dupri's endorsed Tag Body spray for the city.
